33. Shattered Illusion : Advice From Marketing Manager
Tuesday, 28 Aug 2018
Ron :

I love your puzzle rings and am trying to decide between 2 I really like. I'm a rather small man and don't want the ring to over port my hand, but want it to be substantial.

I'll be ordering soon.

As a retired marketing manager, may I make a suggestion? I hope to offend no one but, you should really use another mans hand in the pictures.

This hand is very wide at the palm and narrow at the fingers and your rings would better show their attractiveness with a more normally proportioned hand. I'm pretty sure you will sell more rings if do.

Jeff :

First of all, let me say a big 'thank you' for giving us the biggest laugh we've had for quite some time.

Your innocent suggestion about using a "more normally proportioned hand" in our photos neatly punctured my wife's illusion about having attractive hands. Back when she was first developing the website she thought it would be best to have a man's hand modeling the rings, but the only man's hands around the place were mine, and she decided that they were too old for such a modeling job.

The only other available hands belonged to her, so she used herself as the model (secure in the knowledge that her hands were more than suitable for the task, due to their attractiveness). Then along comes you, with your devastating comment. It wouldn't be so bad if you were nobody in particular, but to have a former marketing manager say such a thing made it impossible to ignore.

Ron :

My apologies to your dear wife. As I looked again at the pictures, I realized that the reason her hand doesn't look natural is because most were taken at an angle from the palm forward instead of straight down. Thats why it appears much wider at the palm. I hope she wasn't offended.

I was the national sales and marketing director for Pfaff sewing machines for several years, and was involved in the making of brochures for our products. Lovely hands demonstrating the sewing machines was important, and I guess that's why I was so bold.

Anyway… since retirement I have been pursuing my hobby of writing poetry. I've written a few books, and have companies who put my poetry on music boxes, wall plaques, wind chimes and etc. If you'd like, check out my website at rontranmer.com

I put together a little poem I would like to post as a comment on your site if it's ok with you.

Puzzle Ring Maker

A puzzle ring is a wonderful thing
and I'm here to attest,
Jeff, at Puzzleringmaker.com
crafts the very best.

Why anyone beneath the sun
would buy less quality,
Is, like his rings, a puzzle
and wonderment to me.

Jeff :

Your poem would be welcome on our website, but we are too busy to have taken the time to set up a way for customers to post comments.

However, we have found this episode with you to be sufficiently entertaining that we intend to put up a Blog posting about it, provided that you agree. If you do, we can include your poem there.

Ron :

You are welcome to post a blog about my email and poem if you like.

Jeff :

Thanks for the green light concerning the Blog posting and poem. Do you want us to change your name, for privacy reasons. I guess not, since you like advertising your poems, but it's better to be clear up front.

Ron :

You are welcome to use my name. After all, the poem is a testimonial. Perhaps a bit early, but i researched enough to know I'm right on.
